YORK LIFE

from THE YORK DISPATCH 10/6/2000

Story & photograph by Zara Tzanev

Nora Dellinger of Brogue arranges an ear of corn in a candle holder at Maple Lawn Farms-her workplace for the past 12 years.

When Dellinger and her late husband started a drive-in restaurant in 1962, they had to do everything from cooking to scrubbing floors. She still hasn't grown out of her busy lifestyle.

When 12 years ago the Dellingers passed their family-owned Collinsville Drive-in on to their daughters, she still loved being around people and missed her busy lifestyle.

She found she likes being out of the house and started working at Maple Lawn Farms to be around people again.

"I love people," she said, "when everybody is just around. And I love making things neat and tidy."

Now she comes to the farm at 6:45 .m. every day and at 1 p.m. she leaves for the drive-in to wait tables, cook and clean till 7 p.m.

Her five daughters helped with the work when they were young, and now Dellinger helps two of them run the restaurant. It keeps her busy and out of the house and among people, she said.

York Life appears Fridays and features the people who make York County a fich and diverse place to live. If you know someone who should be featured here, please contact Randy Flaum at 854-1575 Ext. 449.
