You'll love our Cider!

It pays to eat at least an apple a day, and now doctors even approve of a two apple a day regiment which gets you nearly half way towards the goal of
"5 a Day." One medium sized MLF apple, 1/2 cup of apple sauce or 3/4 cup of cider makes that prescription fun and easy.

Liquefying apples gives you all the goodness of apples without chewing. Every variety of apple adds something different to the cider. Using only Golden Delicious would cause it to be practically clear. Red Delicious offers a darker color, and both varieties add a lot of aroma. Red Delicious, alone though would be very sweet and flat. Tart apples like Jonnee add flavor while Empire, York or Rome put substance/body into the cider.

Our first batch always has the unbeatable addition of Macintosh making it very special early in the season when we're using up Early Gold and PaulaRed varieties, too. Check it Out about September 20.

CIDER = A PRESSING AUTUMN IDEA

Only Maple Lawn Farms apples go into our cider, and we carefully sort and grade them before they go off to be pressed. Then the cider man squeezes, pasteurizes, and jugs the cider for delivery back to our packing house where we keep it fresh and cold at 33 degrees F. so it won't spoil. Our cider comes with a freshness guarantee. And we offer samples in the market, so you will know just what you're purchasing ahead of time.

Apple Cider is more nutritious than apple juice, because contains solids. Pasteurization is a quick flash procedure which returns the liquid to very cold temperatures to destroy any harmful natural bacteria, but to retain flavor and vitamins. But because there are no preservatives, it can spoil or harden if not refrigerated. Refrigerate your apple cider as soon as possible, and it will have a shelf life of two weeks or more. Once it starts to turn, it has the kick of a carbonated beverage. It won't hurt you, but it's definitely no longer sweet cider.

If you remove one cup per gallon, you can freeze it for a special occasion out of season.

Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the production of US apples and boasts the largest processor in the world Knouse Foods with headquarters in Peach Glen, Adams County. In the off season, you can still enjoy our apples in their products packaged under the Lucky Leaf and Musselman labels. The Sparkling Cider we feature during our farm market season is from them. It adds a touch of class to any meal or event, and is non-alcoholic, so children can enjoy champagne-like toasts with the rest of the family.

And we give you access to that field every day Monday thru Saturday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. now thru Halloween. When you've graduated from your apple picking experience, you become a Maple Lawn Farms Expert Apple Picker. You'll be hooked for life!

bulletheart disease
bulletosteoporosis
bulletdiabetes
bulletstroke
bulletcertain types of cancer

Rich in dietary fiber, apples provide 4.28 grams per serving just behind prunes in fiber content. They are also a good source of pectin known to reduce blood cholesterol levels. Pectin in apples helps to form a gel in the small intestine which traps cholesterol and moves it through the body before it can be re absorbed. By delaying the rise in blood glucose right after a meal, apples reduce insulin production and help to prevent some types of diabetes. Fiber in apples also fills up the stomach and causes it to empty more slowly after a meal.

High in potassium, apples can help reduce the risk of stroke by as much as 40%, according to University of CA San Diego researchers. The trace amount of boron in apples can also help the body retain calcium to keep bones hard and prevent osteoporosis.

Imagine! All that goodness packed into MLF apples waiting on all our branches for your finger tips to pick them at their peak of perfection.
